The wash cycle process can be such a drag – but I’ve found a way to solve all our problems!
04:31
I don’t know about you but when it
comes to having to do that dreaded weekly washing, I will pretty much
try and use any excuse under the sun to avoid it. It’s so time
consuming putting a wash cycle through and having to separate it all
according to the care labels, and don’t even get me started on
ironing! Although in some aspects I reckon I’ve got it pretty easy
compared to others, so I probably shouldn’t complain.
MY CURRENT SITUATION
Well I’m a 27 year old apprentice who
cannot currently afford proper rent let alone bills, and I currently
live with my parents (sad but true). Of course this only temporary
until my apprenticeship is complete, then hopefully I can actually
start earning some real money, and maybe it can be my turn to buy the
boyfriend something pretty!
Anyways drifting back to my point,
living at home certainly does have its benefits. I don’t
necessarily have to worry about water bills ( I don’t) when I’m
doing my washing, because my parents sort the bills, and I also have
access to a fully functional washing machine AND a tumble dryer. I
know right? Some people don’t even have a tumble dryer! Although
I’ve turned my fair share of tops into crop tops over the years, so
let’s be honest I think that’s karma for even using a tumble
dryer.
By this point you must be thinking, big
deal so you’ve shrunk a few tops, at least you have access to a
tumble dryer, bet that cuts down the time dramatically.
Well actually you couldn’t be more
wrong. Being a gym enthusiast and going almost every day (that’s a
lot of towel’s used in a week FYI), my washing piles are obscene!
With towels taking up most of the room in the machine drum I can just
about squeeze my snazzy gym clothes in the gaps and maybe the odd
string. Yeah I’m not going to admit I wear any underwear bigger
than that in this particular blog. Anyway, it takes forever to wait
for one cycle to go through and then I have at least another 4 loads
waiting, plus being the 3rd member in the house, 4th if my boyfriend
decides he wants in on the action, it just takes up the majority of
the day. Washing piles in our house start to run on a taxi rank
basis, and I’m surprised the machines have lasted as long as they
have to be fair.
PAUSE FOR THOUGHT
Whilst I was waiting for some washing
to go through the other day, I was scrolling through Facebook and a
picture of me and my girls traveling 3 years ago popped up. It
reminded me of the time of the time when we were in LA, and it was
the second week since we had left home. We knew we desperately needed
to get some washing done, but after watching our friend wash all her
pants in the bathroom sink (Eww!), we knew we had to find an easier
and more sanitary option. So we set out early in the morning with our
bags of washing and literally 10 minutes along the road we spotted a
laundrette. Now as you can imagine I was preparing to settle in for
the rest of the morning, knowing how long we would realistically be
there, however when we got there it was a complete shock to the
system. The industrialised machines were twice the size of a regular
washing machine meaning we could do the whole load in one go, and in
half the time! In fact I think we were only there for an hour and
that was with using the tumble dryer. Less time inside meant more
time to get our bronze on.
CONCLUSION
After remembering how easy it was to
get our laundry done I decided to have a browse on the net to see if
there were any decent laundrettes in my area. After typing the words
“Laundrette Brighton” I was literally spoiled for choice. I even
found a few laundrettes that had additional dry cleaning services,
and some that would collect and deliver my laundry to my door. I tell
you what as soon as I’m on a normal salary again I will 100% be
cashing in on these services, especially in the summer so I can spend
more time on the beach drinking cocktails in the sun!
